Publishers, 1915. — vi; 998, 21 p.英華日用字典Among other distinguishing features of this book may be mentioned the following: modern expressions and newly coined words not found else-where are carefully selected and inserted in this volume, redundant explanations and obsolete meanings have been avoided. Every word or phrase is defind with precision and clearness. Obsolete words and words not of frequent occurrence in ordinary literature are purposely omitted. Derived words generally follow their roots to form a group. Where they are inserted in proper alphabetical order, a cross reference is invariably made. Chinese equivalents follow each explanation in English, so that the student will have no difficulty in understanding the English part separately. Scientific terms are translated according to standardized forms already in use. Wherever such standard is wanting, specialists along different lines have been consulted with respect to terminology. Foreign words, proverbs, maxims, quotations, mottoes, prefixes, suffixes, abbreviations, etc. of frequent occurrence have been arranged in the body of the Dictionary in their proper Alphabetical order in italics. Pronunciation and peculiarities of spelling are given in all necessary cases for readers' guidance.
