Every word or phrase is defind with precision and clearness. Obsolete words and words not of frequent occurrence in ordinary literature are purposely omitted. Derived words generally follow their roots to form a group. Where they are inserted in proper alphabetical order, a cross reference is invariably made. Chinese equivalents follow each explanation in English, so that the student will have no difficulty in understanding the English part separately. Scientific terms are translated according to standardized forms already in use. Wherever such standard is wanting, specialists along different lines have been consulted with respect to terminology.
