This is a classic - old but academic book, all the coding example was in R which were easy to understand but somehow i can say outdate with current trend. But anyway if for interest of laying foundation this book is absolutely fine. You can learn about working with quasi-semi structure data using R, and doing alot of descriptive-diagnostic-predictive analytcis with R, get familiar with regression, K-NN,clustering and various statistics algorithm.
