This is probably the best book to get through the basics of Japanese grammar.
It works much more systematically than something like the very popular Genki series.(Of course, the scope is different, as Genki tries to teach more than just grammar.)
For some learners, this might be the better way to tackle a language like Japanese.
Of course, like any Japanese grammar book, it can't help with speaking practice or learning kanji, but as a basis for your grammatical knowledge, it's the best one out there in my opinion.
It can also work very well as a sort of logically organised reference, especially if you are still at a beginner/intermediate level. Of course, the three books called 'A Dictionary of Japanese Grammar' are superior as a complete reference — this one is just very practical and easy to use when learning.
