Broadband Power-line Communication Systems: Theory and Applications

This book covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of BPLC technology. Advances in BPLC, which is essentially a blend of classical transmission line (TL) theory and communication and networking theories, have made it possible for broadband services to be used to link urban and rural areas efficiently and economically using a readily available and largely distributed power line infrastructure, for multi-service data transmission, high-speed internet access, and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), etc. Written for both university students in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering (senior undergraduate as well as graduate) and industry engineers and specialists involved with planning, design, and improvement of BPLC systems, the book includes chapters on the fundamental aspects of the well-known TL theory, and communication and networking theories as background for the other chapters. The topics covered also include classification of BPLC systems, models for analyses based on TL theory, estimation of channel capacity and performance and finally application of modulation, coding and media access control techniques for boosting the performance of BPLC systems.
